Overview
Tapantí National Park is a large protected tropical rainforest in the mountains of Costa Rica's Central Valley, covering over 580 square kilometers. It attracts eco-tourists with its remarkable biodiversity: more than 400 bird species, almost 50 mammal species, and over 1,200 plant species.

Fees
Foreign adults pay US$10, children under 12 pay US$5. Park open 8am-4pm, last entry 3pm. No camping inside the park.
Safety
Watch for venomous snakes (fer-de-lance) and poisonous frogs. Wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. Carry dry socks and waterproof gear.
Transport
Tapantí is 22 miles from San José (90-minute drive); no direct public bus service. Tours from San José are the easiest option. Private car or taxi is the alternative.
Weather
One of Costa Rica's wettest areas. Rainy season (May-October) brings heavy daily rain. Always carry rain gear and wear waterproof shoes. Temperatures are cooler than San José.
