Why go?

Taguig's Bonifacio Global City (BGC) is Metro Manila's second most important business district, offering a clean, safe, pedestrian-friendly environment often compared to Singapore. The Manila American Cemetery is the largest American WWII cemetery in the world. McKinley Hill attempts to replicate Italian charms with Venice Grand Canal Mall. For some, BGC may feel sterile and over-internationalized, but it offers a welcome respite from Manila's grittiness.

Getting in

Taguig is accessible via Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL) in Manila. From the airport, take a taxi or Grab to BGC (approximately 30-45 minutes depending on traffic). The city is well-connected to other Metro Manila areas via the MRT and bus networks.

Getting around

BGC is designed as a walkable city with pedestrian-friendly streets. For longer distances, use Grab (ride-sharing) or local jeepneys and buses. The sakay.ph app helps navigate public transportation options.

When to go

The best time to visit Taguig is during the dry season from November to April. Avoid the rainy season (June-October) when flooding can occur. December offers festive decorations and events.

Where to stay

Accommodation in BGC ranges from budget options like Red Planet Manila to luxury properties like Grand Hyatt Manila (₱15,000/night) and Shangri-La The Fort (₱17,000/night). Mid-range options include F1 Hotel (₱5,000-7,000) and Seda BGC (₱6,000-8,000). MyTown brand offers capsule hotels at various Panay Street locations.

Food and drink

BGC is a gastronomic paradise with restaurants at Bonifacio High Street, Serendra, The Fort Strip, Forbes Town, and Uptown Parade. Budget options include Fiesta Market and Mercado Centrale food courts. Popular spots include BENCH Cafe, Conti's Pastry Shop, Locavore BGC, and Las Flores Spanish bistro.

Things to do

Visit the Manila American Cemetery (free, daily 9AM-5PM), The Mind Museum (science museum with interactive exhibitions), and explore BGC's contemporary art scene at BGC Arts Center and MO_Space. Evening gondola rides at Venice Grand Canal Mall offer a unique experience.

Safety

BGC is one of the safest areas in Metro Manila with visible security and strict traffic enforcement. However, be cautious at traffic junctions where drivers may not yield to pedestrians. Beware of high-value party drugs and laced drinks in bars. Avoid walking between BGC and McKinley Hill through desolate roads at night—use Grab instead. Outside BGC and McKinley Hill, drugs and violent crimes are common in slums.
