Overview
Tacuarembó is the self-proclaimed heart of gaucho culture in Uruguay, hosting the annual Fiesta de la Patria Gaucha at Laguna de las Lavanderas. The town is also one of three places claiming to be the birthplace of Carlos Gardel, the iconic tango singer, making it a pilgrimage site for tango enthusiasts.

Transport
Tacuarembó is a transit hub for northern Uruguay. Buses connect to Salto and Montevideo daily. Within town, walking suffices; for attractions outside town, taxis or a rental car are necessary.
Weather
Summers (Dec-Feb) are hot and humid; winters (Jun-Aug) are cold and dry. The Fiesta de la Patria Gaucha in April-May offers mild weather and is the busiest time.
