Strong Indo-Fijian influence in addition to Pacific Island culture. Indian curry shops are excellent value. Respect local customs and greetings when visiting villages.
Money
Fiji uses the Fijian Dollar (FJD). ATMs are widely available in the CBD. Most hotels, restaurants, and shops accept credit cards, though markets and smaller eateries prefer cash.
Safety
Standard urban precautions apply—watch for pickpockets and be wary of strangers approaching with sales pitches. Avoid following anyone to isolated locations.
Transport
Taxis are plentiful and affordable in Suva. Public buses connect to nearby towns and are the cheapest option. Coral Sun buses run twice daily between Suva and Nadi ($20 one way).
Weather
Tropical climate year-round with wet season November-April. Driest months May-July offer more comfortable sightseeing. Always carry rain gear regardless of season.
