Safety
Tourist literature warns against swimming at Strandhill Beach due to strong currents and a sewage outflow at the north end. Always check tide times before crossing to Coney Island.
Transport
Bus Éireann S2 runs every 30 minutes between Sligo town and Strandhill, taking 20 minutes. No local taxi; book from Sligo.
Weather
The west-facing Atlantic coast is exposed to wind and waves. Summer months offer the best conditions for surfing and hiking.
