Staten Island is New York City's southernmost borough, separated from Manhattan by New York Harbor. Often called the "Forgotten Borough," it offers a quieter, more suburban feel than the rest of NYC while still providing urban amenities.

Accommodation
Staten Island has lower hotel rates than Manhattan and is convenient for Newark Airport access. The Hilton Garden Inn is one main mid-range option.
Connectivity
Free Wi-Fi is available at all 12 Staten Island NYPL branches. Libraries also offer free English language programs.
Food
Italian pizza is the staple, but St. George/Tompkinsville neighborhoods have excellent, inexpensive South Asian restaurants within walking distance of the ferry.
Safety
The North Shore has high crime—avoid walking alone at night there. The South Shore is relatively safe. Spring pollen is high; bring allergy medication if sensitive.
Transport
The Staten Island Ferry is free and runs between Manhattan (Whitehall Terminal) and St. George, taking 25 minutes with views of the Statue of Liberty. MTA buses cost $2.90 per ride.
