Overview
Spello is one of Umbria's most beautifully preserved medieval hill towns, with Roman city walls dating back over three millennia, three large Roman gates (Porta Consulare, Porta Urbica, and Torre di Properzio), and Renaissance frescoes by masters Pinturicchio and Perugino in Santa Maria Maggiore and Sant'Andrea churches. The town of 8,500 inhabitants offers an authentic alternative to busier destinations, with sweeping views of Assisi and Perugia from the belvedere lookout, plus the world-famous Infiorata flower festival drawing tens of thousands of visitors each June.
