Overview
South Padre Island is a barrier island resort town at the southern tip of Padre Island off the Texas coast, separated from mainland by Laguna Madre. Incorporated in 1973, it is famous as a spring break destination for college students but also offers year-round beach recreation, fishing, and nature activities.

Swimming near the jetties can be dangerous. Sun protection is essential year-round. Gulf waters have rip currents.
Transport
Brownsville/South Padre Island Airport has American and United service. The island is reached via the Queen Isabella Memorial Bridge from Port Isabel on Highway 100. Greyhound serves Brownsville, about 25 miles west.
Weather
Summers are hot (88-89°F water temp) and humid. Winters are mild (53-71°F). September-October can bring tropical storms. Spring break season (March) is extremely crowded.
