Overview
Sondrio is the quiet capital of the Valtellina wine valley, producing Sassella and Grumello reds from terraced vineyards that climb toward Alpine passes. The town itself holds a handful of Grisons-era buildings, but its real value is as a transport hub for Valmalenco mountain trails and ski areas above the tree line.
