Overview
Sodankylä is a remote Arctic municipality in the heart of Finnish Lapland, covering an area nearly half the size of Belgium. It is internationally renowned for the Midnight Sun Film Festival held every June since 1986, attracting notable international audiences.

Safety
Military presence (Jaeger Brigade) visible in town. Remote wilderness with huge distances between services—carry emergency supplies. Never stop on Highway 4 lanes.
Transport
No airport or railway at Sodankylä—access is exclusively by road via coaches on E75 from Rovaniemi (€25) or Ivalo (€44). A car is essential for reaching attractions outside town.
