Overview
Sneek is a pleasant city in the heart of the Frisian Lakes district with some 34,000 inhabitants, known for water sports, historic canals, and monumental architecture. It hosts the annual Sneekweek, a major water sports event, and is one of the eleven cities in the famous Elfstedentocht ice skating tour.

Transport
Trains to Leeuwarden run every 20 minutes (€4.30, 20 minutes). The A7 connects to Groningen and Germany; N354 links to Leeuwarden, Grou, and Lemmer.
Weather
Best visited in summer for water sports (Sneekweek crowds). Winter may bring the Elfstedentocht ice skating tour.
