Overview
Shusha is a culturally significant fortified city in Azerbaijan's Karabakh region, long considered the cradle of Azerbaijani art, poetry, and music. The city sits on a plateau with dramatic views over the Karkar Canyon and was historically a center of Caucasian Albanian heritage.

Access
Shusha requires a special permit and organized group tours from Azerbaijan. No access from Armenia or Stepanakert since 2021.

Options range from small guesthouses (4-5 beds) to renovated Soviet-era hotels. Advance booking recommended.
Museums
Shushi History Museum at 32 M. Mashtots is free admission, open M-Sa 09:00-17:00.
Safety
Active reconstruction zone. Follow all local advisories and travel only with proper permits.
Transport
Taxis available near Ghazanchetsots Cathedral. Streets unpaved in lower town—expect mud in wet weather.
