Overview
Serra de Montsant Natural Park, whose name translates from Catalan as Holy Mountain, offers dramatic Mediterranean landscapes of steep cliffs, deep ravines, and gorges shaped by centuries of human and natural activity. The park is world-renowned among rock climbers with over 2000 routes, while hikers find well-marked trails connecting medieval hermitages and viewpoints.

Before you go
Access
No internal roads exist inside the protected area—only forest tracks, most unpaved. Motorised access prohibited except on authorised tracks. Surrounding loop road: C-242, T-713, T-702.
Activities
Over 2000 rock climbing routes across the park and pre-park areas. Margalef has 95+ climbing sectors. Well-marked hiking routes connect medieval hermitages. Via ferrata at La Morera de Montsant.
Culture
Montsant means Holy Mountain—religious heritage evident in numerous hermitages, pilgrimage routes, and the Carthusian Monastery of Escaladei. August 17 Virgin of Montsant celebration at Santa Maria de Montsant hermitage.
Fees
No entry fee for the park. Motorhome parking areas available in Cornudella de Montsant (Avinguda del Priorat) and La Vilella Baixa (Carrer de Catalunya). Free parking in Cabacés (Carrer de Balmes) and Margalef.
Weather
Mediterranean climate with summer peaks to 40°C on western slopes and winter frosts in valleys. Annual rainfall 450-600mm, mostly in spring and autumn. Snow occasional.
