History
The Strahlenburg castle dates to the 13th century and has been in ruins since the 16th century. The half-timbered buildings on Heidelberger Straße and the Altes Rathaus from 1684 represent the town's 17th-century building boom.
Transport
Schriesheim Bahnhof is on the regional rail line between Mannheim and Heidelberg. S-Bahn S3 or regional trains connect to Heidelberg in 20-30 minutes. The town has minimal parking but is easy to explore on foot.
Walking
The entire Altstadt is walkable in 20-30 minutes. A path leads up the hill to Strahlenburg from the town center. Comfortable shoes are recommended for the uneven cobblestones and castle approach.
Wine
Four wineries operate in Schriesheim: Winzergenossenschaft, Weingut Biehlig, Weingut Wehweck, and Weingut Majer. Most offer tasting sessions, with hours varying by producer. The region produces Riesling and other German varietals.
