Overview

Savannah offers one of the largest intact historic districts in the United States, with 22 oak-lined squares dating to the 1733 colonial city plan by General James Oglethorpe. The city escaped burning during General Sherman's 1864 March to the Sea, preserving antebellum charm that neighboring Southern cities lost.
