Local currency is the Dobra (STN). Street vendors outside Hotel Central offer reliable exchange at 25 Dobra per €1. Euros are sometimes accepted at upscale establishments.
Safety
Generally safe with minimal violent crime. Traffic is hazardous. Typhoid vaccine is advisable though not required.
Transport
Shared yellow minivans (collectivos) run along the east coast highway for 100 Dobra per full trip. Scooter hire from locals costs about US$20 per day.
Weather
Tropical humid climate with 27-31°C temperatures year-round. Dry season June-September is best for trekking. Turtle nesting November-February, whales visible August-October.
