Why go?
Santiniketan is a UNESCO World Heritage town in Birbhum district where Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore created an experimental university based on open-air learning under trees. The town draws 1.2 million visitors annually for its unique blend of Bengali culture, baul music traditions, and artisan crafts. Unlike crowded tourist hotspots, Santiniketan offers a contemplative atmosphere where you can wander Tagore's legacy through museums, artisan workshops, and the famous Poush Mela winter fair.

When to go
Winter (December to February) offers pleasant 10–15°C weather ideal for exploring. The Poush Mela (22-25 December) is the biggest festival with tribal sports, folk dances, and baul singers. Avoid summer (March-May) when temperatures reach 35-42°C. The monsoon season (June-September) brings heavy rainfall averaging 216mm in July.
