Overview
Santillana del Mar is a picturesque medieval town of 4200 people in Cantabria, Spain, renowned for its yellow sandstone architecture and winding cobblestone streets. The original medieval kernel survives in the centre around the Collegiata de Santa Juliana, a 12th-century Romanesque abbey that was once one of the most powerful monasteries in Spain.
