Sana'a is one of the oldest continuously-inhabited cities in the world, alongside Jericho, Damascus, and Aleppo. The city is traditionally said to have been founded by Shem, son of Noah, earning it the nickname 'Sam City'.

Salta is a popular local dish served very hot. Exercise caution with street food following the same guidelines as tap water.
Language
Arabic is the primary language. English is much less commonly spoken than in neighboring countries. Several Arabic language institutes in the Old City cater to students.
Money
Yemeni rial is subject to high inflation. Prices to foreigners may be quoted in USD or euros, and all three currencies are typically accepted.
Safety

Transport
Local Dabaabs (minivans) cost 15-30 riyals per ride. Taxis should cost around 1000 rials to the airport. Bargaining expected and can reduce fares by a third.
Water
Tap water must be avoided at all costs. Bottled water is readily available and very cheap throughout the city.
