Overview
Sahiwal is a major regional city with nearly 390,000 inhabitants, situated between the Sutlej and Ravi rivers in Northern Punjab. While the city itself has a few interesting sights, its primary draw for travelers is as the main transport hub for visiting the famous archaeological site of Harappa, one of the main centers of the ancient Indus Valley Civilisation dating back to 3000-5000 BC.

Harappa archaeological site is 24 km west of Sahiwal, reachable by frequent buses (Rs 15) in about 45 minutes. This is the primary day trip destination from the city.
Safety
Foreigners must register with the District Foreigner Security Cell at the DPO Office if staying overnight in any hotel or guesthouse. Your accommodation manager should arrange this.
Transport
Sahiwal is a major railway hub on the Lahore–Karachi line with connections to most major Punjabi cities. Bus services to Lahore cost Rs 120 and take about 3 hours.
