Before you go

Connectivity

Limited WiFi only at select accommodations. Purchase Indonesian SIM in Banda Aceh. Power: European two-pin Type C/F sockets.

Culture

Aceh is a conservative Islamic province. Dress modestly in Sabang town. Alcohol available on the island but don't display consumption openly. Local customs differ from touristy Bali.

Money

Pulau Weh is essentially cash-only. As of 2024, only one working ATM at the ferry port and one at Iboih Beach accept foreign cards. Previously all ATMs were Islamic banks (BSI, Bank Aceh) incompatible with Visa/Mastercard. Bring sufficient cash from Banda Aceh for your entire stay.
