Overview
Rügen is Germany's largest island, located in the Baltic Sea off the coast of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. For over 200 years it has been a premier holiday destination, celebrated for its 574 km of coastline featuring excellent sandy beaches, dramatic chalk cliffs including the 117 m high Königsstuhl in Jasmund National Park, and scenic Bodden lagoons.

Food
Fresh seafood including Fischbrötchen is abundant. Sea-buckthorn (Sanddorn) products are a regional specialty.
Money
Germany uses the Euro (€). Cash is widely accepted, and debit/credit cards work at hotels and restaurants in larger towns.
Safety
Beware of cliff edges that overhang and may collapse. Keep distance from wild boar if encountered.
Transport
The Rügen Bridge connects the island to Stralsund on the mainland. The narrow-gauge railway Rasender Roland is both transport and tourist attraction.
