Overview
Rothenburg ob der Tauber is one of Germany's best-preserved medieval towns, with a fully intact 14th-century wall encircling a storybook Altstadt of half-timbered houses and cobblestone lanes. The town peaked in the 15th century under Mayor Heinrich Toppler, when its 6,000 residents made it larger than Frankfurt or Munich at the time.
