Rizhao (日照, meaning "first light of the sunrise") is a coastal city of 1.5 million people in southeast Shandong province. Known as the "Water Sports Capital" and "Oriental Sun City," it has won the UN Habitat Award for its excellent environment.

Rizhao has a temperate monsoon climate with four distinct seasons. Average annual temperature is 12.6°C with mild, humid conditions. No typhoon landfall has ever been recorded.
Food
Seafood is the local specialty. Budget meals from ¥14 for rice balls to ¥80-120 for seafood restaurants. High-end dining ¥258-465.
Money
China uses CNY (¥). Mobile payment (WeChat Pay, Alipay) is dominant. Cash less common at tourist sites. Major shopping malls and international hotels accept cards.

Transport
Rizhao Shanzihe Airport has bus connections; Rizhao West Railway Station handles high-speed trains. Local buses connect major areas with routes like C106, C201, K1-K3.
