Overview
Rasht is the capital of Guilan province in northern Iran, positioned about 40 km from the Caspian Sea shore. It offers a starkly different experience from southern Iran: much wetter and colder climate, lush greenery, and the humid microclimate created by the Caspian Sea.

As a northern Caspian city, Rasht offers a distinctly green, humid atmosphere unlike Iran's arid interior. The Gilaki culture here differs from Persian central Iran.
Food
Rasht is famous for koloocheh cookies and dooghs (yogurt drink). Local dishes like Baghala ghatogh and Shami Rashti reflect the region's rich agricultural output.
Transport
Rasht Airport has daily flights to Tehran and Dubai. The bus terminal (Terminal-e Gil) serves intercity routes nationwide. Railway station is 12 km south of center.
Weather
Rasht has a humid climate with over 1,300 mm annual rainfall. Winters are mild (3-13°C), summers warm (21-30°C). Pack rain gear year-round.
