Overview
Rangiroa is the second-largest atoll in the world, a ring of coral islands enclosing a vast lagoon in French Polynesia’s Tuamotu archipelago. The main motu of Avatoru offers laid-back Polynesian village life with pensions, dive shops, and access to world-class drift diving through the Tiputa Pass.

Mobile coverage is limited. WiFi is available at some hotels but expect minimal connectivity on this remote atoll.
Language
French is the official language; Tahitian is also spoken. English is understood at tourist-related businesses and dive shops.
Money
French CFP franc (XPF) is the local currency. Credit cards are accepted at major hotels but cash is needed for pensions, restaurants, and activities.
Packing
Bring reef-safe sunscreen, insect repellent, and cash. Dive gear can be rented at local shops but bringing your own mask and snorkel is recommended.
