Overview
Puracé National Natural Park offers one of Colombia's most accessible volcano summits as a day trip from Popayán. The active stratovolcano reaches 4,646 m and rewards hikers with views of four major Colombian rivers originating from its slopes.

Accommodation
Indigenous Cocunuco community operates lodging in Pilimbalá sector. Guambiano settlement also available. No commercial hotels exist inside the park.
Packing
Bring warm layers for sub-freezing nights and early morning summit attempts. Rain gear essential given 2,500 mm annual rainfall. Sturdy hiking boots recommended for volcanic terrain.
Transport
Buses from Popayán take 2 hours; driving the 44 km road takes 1 hour. The road is in good condition. Final access to the park also possible via the old police base at 4,000 m after passing the sulphur mines.
Weather
Daytime highs of 14-16°C drop below freezing at night. Frost occurs above 3,000 m and daily above 4,200 m. Rainfall averages 2,500 mm annually.
