Overview
Pulau Ketam (Crab Island) is a car-free Chinese fishing village where houses sit on stilts extending up to 10 m below the water's surface, connected by pedestrian streets and precarious wooden bridges. The settlement was established around 1880 by Teochew and Hokkien fishermen, preserving a way of life largely unchanged in its waterfront architecture.
