Overview
Puerto del Carmen is Lanzarote's premier beach resort, stretching 6 km along the island's rare sandy south coast. Unlike the volcanic craggy shores elsewhere on the island, it offers long beaches sheltered from Atlantic swells, making it ideal for swimming, diving, and sunbathing year-round.

Safety
The resort is generally safe. Beach hawkers and small electronic stores have a poor reputation for dodgy merchandise — avoid purchasing from them.
Transport
Taxis from Arrecife or airport cost about €20. Buses 161, 6 and 3 connect the resort to Arrecife, airport, Costa Teguise, Puerto Calero, Yaiza and Playa Blanca.
Water
Tap water is safe to drink but desalinated and brackish. Choose bottled water or beer instead.
