Culture

Federal Hill is the historic Italian-American neighborhood for great food. College Hill has the university scene with bookstores and cafés. Waterfire events run April through October on select weekend evenings.

Safety

Avoid South Providence and Olneyville at night. Downtown near Kennedy Plaza and Washington Street can feel unsafe after dark. Federal Hill bars attract drunk crowds late at night.

Transport

RIPTA buses cost $2.00 base fare with $0.75 for 2-hour transfers. Downtown walking is easy; avoid driving as parking is expensive and Kennedy Plaza area can be dodgy at night.

Weather

Summers hot and humid (83°F average high July); winters cold with snow (27°F average low January). Coastal location moderates extremes. Bring layers for spring and fall visits.
