Overview
Potsdam served as the escape residence for Prussian kings seeking relief from Berlin, and many wealthy Berliners have bought second homes here since reunification in 1990. The city holds UNESCO World Heritage status for its ensemble of palaces, parks, and gardens built under Frederick the Great and other monarchs in the 18th and 19th centuries.
