Overview

Potenza is the capital of Basilicata (sometimes called Lucania), a provincial city with a rebellious history that was once reduced by ancient Rome to a military colony. The city has endured pillages in the Middle Ages and devastating earthquakes, yet emerged as an important railway corridor and regional hub.
