Portofino is a small, picturesque fishing village on the Ligurian Sea in the Italy's Liguria region. It has become internationally famous as a glamorous yachting destination, attracting wealthy visitors and celebrities to its colourful harbour.

Etiquette
Shops operate on irregular Italian hours and are frequently closed. Boutiques open end of February through October only.
Food
Seafood is frozen not fresh despite the harbour setting. The Hotel Splendido and Hotel Splendido Mare are open only April-September. Weekend dining requires reservations.
Money
Portofino is extremely expensive. Restaurants operate as a price-fixing cartel with similar high prices everywhere. Bring significant cash as card payments may not be accepted and ATMs may be limited. A single meal can easily exceed €100 per person.
Transport
No train station exists in Portofino. Arrive by ferry from Santa Margherita Ligure or Genoa, or by bus/taxi from Santa Margherita Ligure station. Taxis start at €20 minimum.
Weather
After 18:30 the sun goes behind the promontory and temperatures drop noticeably. Bring a light layer even in summer.
