Overview
Port Alberni is a city of about 18,000 people in British Columbia, sitting at the base of Mount Arrowsmith and practically surrounded by mountains. Known as the Salmon Capital of the World, it was designated the World Fishing Network's first "Ultimate Fishing Town 2010" and offers abundant river and ocean fishing.

Summers are relatively dry; most precipitation falls in winter months as moist Pacific air crosses the coast. The weak rain shadow means Port Alberni is not as dry as other east-side Vancouver Island locations.
