Overview
Ponta Delgada is the Azores' largest city (67,000 residents) and the main gateway to São Miguel island. It serves as the administrative, industrial, and agricultural hub of the archipelago while offering volcanic crater lakes, whale-watching tours, and the annual Festa do Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres.

Free unlimited Wi-Fi is available throughout Ponta Delgada Airport terminal. Mobile coverage is good in the city and along major roads.
Food
Try fresh pineapple from local markets and local cheeses and wines. Mercado do Peixe serves excellent seafood daily except January.
Money
Portugal uses the Euro (EUR). Credit cards are widely accepted in hotels and restaurants. ATMs are available throughout the city center.
Safety
Ponta Delgada is generally safe for travelers. Standard urban precautions apply. The city is quiet at night outside of the marina area.
Transport
Ponta Delgada Airport is the main hub. Since November 2023, the Aerobus shuttle no longer operates—arrange airport transfer separately. City center is walkable.
Weather
Mild maritime climate year-round: 14.5°C winter average, 22°C summer average. Gulf Stream causes unpredictable weather, especially in autumn and spring.
