Before you go
Culture
The town is divided: average Cambodian town north of main street, poorer slum area to the south. Both have markets with contrasting atmospheres.
Money
USD is the main currency in Cambodia; riel is used only for small change. ATMs dispense dollars but Canadia Bank charges $4 service fee for foreign cards. Baht can be exchanged without problem.
Safety
Watch for pickpockets, snatch thieves, and scammers at the border. Children may swarm tourists. Never pay taxi fares upfront and avoid the transport monopoly zone.
Transport
Motodop rides cost 500-1,000 riel within town. Buses to Phnom Penh take 8-10 hours. National Hwy 5 and Hwy 6 are fully paved.
