Overview
Pirin is Bulgaria's most dramatic mountain range, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1983 protecting 400 sq km of alpine wilderness. The park offers world-class trekking through pine forests, past glacial lakes, and up to craggy summits like Vihren (2,914 m), the second-highest peak in Bulgaria.

Before you go
Connectivity
No cellular coverage in most of the park. Download offline maps via OpenStreetMap/OsmAnd/Mapy.cz before entering.
Money
All hut prices are in Bulgarian leva (лв). Carry cash from Bansko, as there are no ATMs inside the park. BTS members get small discounts at huts.
Packing
Bring a sleeping bag even if staying in huts—linen quality varies. Waterproof layers and sturdy hiking boots are essential.
Safety
Mountain terrain 2,000-3,000 m with steep cliffs and poorly marked trails. Carry GPS and maps. Weather changes rapidly.
Transport
Buses run from Sofia to Bansko; from there, local transport or taxi to the Vihren hut trailhead. Inside the park, all travel is on foot.
