Connectivity
Free WiFi is available at several cafes including Cafe Wookpa and Kizom Cafe. Mobile coverage is provided by Bhutan Telecom and Tashi Cell.
Food
Indian restaurants dominate the food scene due to the border location. The town starts late—restaurants typically open 8:30-9AM. Jaigaon across the border has earlier-opening establishments for early risers.
Money
Bhutan's currency is the Ngultrum (Nu). Indian Rupee is accepted at par in Phuentsholing due to the currency peg. ATMs are available, and credit cards are accepted at larger hotels and restaurants.
Shopping
Phuentsholing is known for duty-free shopping, particularly electronics and computers from Bangkok. Handicrafts including Yethra bags, Bhutanese woven cloth products, and Buddhist ritual items are available at local shops.
Transport
Local transport includes taxis, auto-rickshaws, and buses. The bus station is central for departures to Thimphu and other Bhutanese destinations. Taxis can be hired from the taxi parking area for longer journeys.
