Overview
Pforzheim serves as the "golden gate" to the Black Forest, making it the traditional starting point for three major long-distance hiking ridges: the Westweg (to Basel), Mittelweg (to Waldshut), and Ostweg (to Schaffhausen). The city is also known as "Goldstadt" (Gold City) because about 75% of all German jewellery is still produced here, making it a global centre for jewellery design and watch-making.
