Overview
Peneda-Gerês National Park (Parque Nacional da Peneda-Gerês) is the only national park in Portugal, covering 695.93 km² across the districts of Viana do Castelo, Braga, and Vila Real. Set along the mountains of Peneda, Larouco, and Gerês, it is one of the most spectacular natural areas in the Iberian Peninsula.

Fees
No fees or permits are required to visit Peneda-Gerês National Park. All hiking trails are free to access.
Language
Portuguese is the local language. Spanish is understood but not always appreciated. English is limited outside main tourist areas.
Safety
Carry water and supplies when hiking remote trails; mobile coverage may be limited in valleys. Trails can be muddy after rain. Emergency services information is limited in the article.
Transport
Rent a car for full park access; public buses are sparse, especially on weekends. Empresa Hoteleira do Gêres runs buses from Braga to Gerês (€4.50 one way).
Weather
Mountain weather changes rapidly; bring layers even in summer. Winter brings cold temperatures and potentially inaccessible trails.
