Padang Panjang is a university town with a growing arts scene. STSI Arts Academy students often know about impromptu cultural performances and village gigs. Respect for local artists and their craft is appreciated.
Food
Try teh talua at Desy's cafe behind the Town Hall, sate at Mak Syukur or Saiyo, and durian at Kayu Tanam or Sicincin in the evening.
Money
Most transactions are cash-based in Indonesian Rupiah. Street food and market purchases are very cheap. Cards are rarely accepted outside larger establishments.
Transport
Buses connect Padang Panjang with Padang and Bukittinggi frequently. Local bendi (horse carts) can be chartered at the market for scenic tours around town and nearby villages.
