Overview
Ostend is a seaside city of 70,000 in West Flanders, Belgium, with North Sea beaches that have drawn tourists since the 19th century when it was fashionable for royalty and aristocracy. While post-war development replaced much of its original charm with concrete apartment blocks, relics of its grand past remain - including the Venetian-style Royal Galleries and the majestic Thermae Palace Hotel.
