Overview
Novara is the capital of its province in northwest Italy's Piedmont region, with 104,000 residents as of 2019. While not a major tourist destination, it preserves remarkable artistic and architectural treasures including Alessandro Antonelli's bold neoclassical dome on the Basilica of San Gaudenzio—the city's symbol—and one of the oldest religious buildings in Piedmont, the early Christian baptistery.
