Diving and snorkeling are major draws. Best dive center is at Sakatia Lodge on Nosy Sakatia. Sunday afternoon Moraingy fight games at La Banane showcase traditional martial arts.
Money
The local currency is Malagasy Ariary (Ar). Accommodation and diving tend to be priced in euros, while local transport and markets use Ariary.
Safety
General tourist area is safe, but a serious mob incident in 2013 led to travel warnings from France and Italy. Normal precautions advised.
Transport
Taxis-brousses cost approximately 2,000 Ar per person for shared rides around the island. Private taxis are available from Fascene Airport to all destinations.
