Before you go
Money
US dollars are widely accepted alongside Costa Rican colón. ATMs may be limited, so plan accordingly when arriving in town.
Safety
Playa Pelada is safer for swimming than Playa Guiones, which has dangerous rip tides. Always check local conditions before entering the water.
Transport
Liberia Airport is the nearest major airport, about 1.5-2 hours away by taxi or rental car. A 4-wheel drive vehicle is recommended due to gravel roads and a river crossing without a bridge.
Weather
Dry season (November to April) offers the best beach and surfing conditions. Wet season brings lush greenery but occasional afternoon showers.
