Overview
Nordhausen is a small Thuringian town of 41,000 people that serves as the urban centre of northern Thuringia and the southern Harz region. Visitors come primarily for the Dora-Mittelbau concentration camp memorial and the IFA technology museum.

Nordhausen is known for Nordhäuser Doppelkorn, a grain spirit produced since 1507. The town marks its identity through this tradition and the sober memory of its WWII history.
History
The town was heavily bombed in 1945, destroying most of the historic centre. Nearby Mittelbau-Dora concentration camp is one of the most notorious on German soil, where forced labourers produced V2 rockets.

Germany uses the Euro (€). ATMs are widely available. Credit cards are accepted at most hotels and restaurants but some smaller establishments may be cash-only.
Transport
Nordhausen has a railway station with regional connections. Tram line 2 serves key attractions including the Traditionsbrennerei. The town is well-connected by road to Erfurt, Halle, and Braunschweig.
