Overview

Nicoya is Guanacaste's regional transport hub, serving as the main junction for buses heading to the peninsula's beaches (Nosara, Samara, Tamarindo) and northward to Liberia. The town itself has limited tourist appeal and few attractions, but its strategic location makes it a practical overnight stop for budget travelers who want to break up long journeys on Costa Rican roads—driving at night is discouraged.
