Overview
Newry straddles the boundary between County Down and County Armagh in Northern Ireland, five miles north of the Republic of Ireland border. This U-shaped glaciated valley created a strategic gap in the mountains, making Newry the natural corridor between Dublin and Belfast.

Newry railway station is a mile northwest of town centre; the station is accessible. Most town centre streets have pavements but can be narrow.
History
Newry straddles the historic county boundary and the modern UK-Republic border. The town was heavily affected by The Troubles (1970-1998) but post-1998 Good Friday Agreement, the border is now largely frictionless.
Money
Newry uses British Pounds Sterling (GBP). Cross-border shoppers sometimes benefit from currency swings when euros buy more against pounds. Cash available via ATMs; card payments widely accepted.
Transport
The Enterprise Train runs hourly between Belfast and Dublin via Newry (1-1.5 hours each way). Dublin Airport (DUB) is 90 min by Expressway bus.
