Hotels cluster near Christiana Mall and I-95, about 10 minutes from downtown. Embassy Suites, Homewood Suites, Hampton Inn, and Ramada are among the options. Downtown itself has few places to stay.
Culture
University of Delaware dominates the town's character. The Green and surrounding campus buildings are architecturally significant. Newark History Museum at 429 S College Street covers local history. Murals honoring Edgar Allan Poe appear on North Chapel Street.
Food
Downtown Main Street has local cafes, bars, and quick-serve spots. UDairy Creamery (535 S College Ave) serves campus-made ice cream from the university's own dairy cows. Groceries available at Newark Natural Foods Co-op (280 E Main).
Money
US dollars. Parking meters accept quarters or credit cards at $2.25/hour. Downtown lots charge $2/hour. Many meters near the university now tie to the Passport parking app.
Safety
Generally safe college town. Lock bikes (not on sidewalks), use well-lit parking, and be aware late at night near bar areas. Parking tickets are common if meters are not fed.
Transport
Amtrak and SEPTA trains stop at Newark railway station (10 Mopar Drive), with service to Philadelphia (30-40 min) and Baltimore (about 1 hr). Free Unicity bus runs N1 route M-F every two hours. Downtown is walkable; use dedicated bike lanes where available.
