Safety

Area is called the 'shark bite capital of the world'—stay near shore when swimming. Alligators present in all waterways; never swim in lakes, swamps, or estuaries. Watch for rip currents.

Transport

Greyhound stops at Tropical Chevron on FL-44 (Exit 249 of I-95). Votran Routes 40-44 serve New Smyrna Beach from the Julia and Sam Transfer Point. A car is recommended to explore beyond Flagler Ave and Canal Street.

Water

Tap water is safe to drink. Beach lifeguards are present at Flagler Avenue Park. The Atlantic Ocean has seasonal jellyfish; inland waterways harbor alligators.

Weather

Humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers (90°F in July) and mild winters. June-September brings thunderstorms and tropical cyclones. Winter temperatures swing between 40°F and 80°F—pack layers.
